Fall 1901

Postby Matt » Thu May 18, 2017 11:57 am

New York: Initial reports indicate that a German and French Alliance has been formed in order to reduce the influence of England. Germany appears poised to march into the Low Countries resulting in a massive expanse of its war fighting capability to achieve the predominate position in Europe. While Munich is exposed, sources in Rome are uncertain to what extent a peace accord exists between Germany and Italy. Meanwhile, on the Iberian Peninsula, France is in a position to seize both Spain and Portugal. This however, will leave them open to a landing by the English if they are not careful or come to some agreement.

Central Europe is still an open question. Austria is prepared to defend its western boundary against any Italian aggression, leaving Munich open to Italy and an assured victory, also this fall Tunis is likely to fall to the Italians without contention. While in the east Austria is sure to make a gain somewhere, Serbia is the most likely bet. Unless Turkey and Russia have agreed to keep Austria out of both Serbia and Rumania. Conflict looks certain in the Balkans, while Russia seems out of position after the initial moves for anything other than a regional squabble with Austria or Turkey, but netting small prospective gains.

Dateline: Valletta

Reports from Stockholm indicate tension in the capital of Sweden. King Oscar II, OGF, KG, has reportedly acquiesced in his deposition from the throne of Norway, though anonymous sources from the Sveriges Kungahus have indicated His Majesty fears the very independence of Sweden itself is in jeopardy. With reports that his nephew has ascended the Norwegian throne as Haakon VII, the King was heard to mutter - Han hade aldrig några bollar.

One thing is certain to this reporter, as Europe moves again towards war not seen in a century, only Sweden has remained outside the orbit of the great powers. If King Oscar is to prevail, it will be no small miracle - right now he is as hemmed in as his sardines.
